Audience Questionnaire Research
To carry out my research for
my target audience I held a small focus group with 10 other students, who I thought,
fitted into my demographic target audience. In this focus group we discussed the
idea of a new festival/music magazine. I asked the group questions regarding
language choice, range of articles, images, the balance between professional
and reader input, and graphic frequency. Amongst these questions I asked the group what
sort of music the listen to whether it be pop, indie, or R and B. I also asked
what type f things they take with them to a festival which will help me when
writing my article for my double page spread.
I recorded and took notes of
the focus group which I will later look at, which will help me when
constructing my main product. I found this technique of gathering research far
more useful that the questionnaire I first attempted because I was able to
interact with my target audience and ask any other questions I wanted to ask
which I thought of on the spot. Summary of responses:
The age range of students who were asked was between 16-18, however the majority was 16.
Regarding gender, I asked 5 males and 5 females because I wanted to create a unisex magazine.
In regards to money, the majority of the people I asked were willing to pay between £1.50-£2.00, showing the minority are willing to pay more. I also asked what the majority of the student’s money they earn goes towards, which included food, alcohol, cigarettes and clothes. This suggests some advertising prospects which could be included in the magazine.
The majority of people I asked listens to either pop or indie music, which narrows down which festivals I can advertise and focus on throughout the magazine.
